Translation & languages
Translation, localisation and Indian-language models.
Two different claims get marketed as “multilingual”: a tool that translates text between languages, and a tool whose own interface or chat happens to support a few Indian languages. They’re not the same capability. Check whether a product handles code-mixed Hindi-English input (“Hinglish”) — how a large share of Indian users actually type — and whether it does speech as well as text before assuming coverage.

Our take
Sarvam AI is the strongest option here for business use: ten Indian languages in our data, rupee billing, a GST invoice and India-hosted inference, with pay-per-use translation rather than a subscription. Krutrim offers a free assistant across seven Indian languages from an Indian company. Hindi AI is a free, no-account Hindi assistant, but it covers Hindi only and runs on US providers' models. For anything customer-facing, have a native speaker check the output before it goes out.
