Picking an AI coding tool
There are two styles. GitHub Copilot is an AI pair programmer inside your existing editor, with mature integrations, and it's the only tool here that can give a GST invoice, through organisation billing via Microsoft India; individual plans start at $10 a month in US dollars. Cursor is a full AI code editor whose agentic editing handles larger multi-file changes better; it shows rupee pricing from ₹649 a month, though that Start plan drops features such as Bugbot and Auto Mode, and heavy days can trigger usage-based costs.
General assistants are useful too: Claude is strong on long code and reasoning, and ChatGPT handles everyday questions and snippets. Devin goes further as an autonomous agent that plans and ships code, but its free quota is thin and it still needs careful human review on complex tickets.

For individual developers who want the most capable editing, Cursor is the stronger tool; watch the usage meter. No tool here offers India data residency, so check your client contracts before pasting proprietary code into any of them.
